IRC Hours Update: Dec 13-16

Instructional Resource Center hours for this week are:
Mon, 12/13:  9 a.m. to 1 p.m. & 3 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Tues, 12/14: 9 am - 3 pm
Wed, 12/15: 9 am - 1 pm
Thurs, 12/16: Closed

The IRC is closed daily 1-2 p.m. for lunch. IRC hours and updates are available on our website; hours are subject to change.

Ready for a break? Our December display includes holiday and seasonal juvenile titles, explore the selection for ideas or stop in the IRC and we can help you find something fun to read. 

Did you know the IRC materials kit collection includes an assortment of games? Yes, games!  Our display features a few of your childhood favorites such as Checkers, Twister, 5 Second Rule, Battleship, Sorry, and Clue. We have more in the IRC; stop in when we are open and explore Harry Potter Clue, Codenames: Duets, and Codenames: Disney.

Library Study Room News

2 Hour Reservations!
Just in time for final exams, we have updated our reservation limits from one to two hours. When making your reservation online, use the drop-down menu to choose your booking time from 15 minutes to 2 hours.  

Check in / Check out •
With the updated time period, it is no longer necessary to make two reservations. Check in at the start of your reservation and check out when you leave.

Make Your Reservation  •
Why? A reservation guarantees the study room is available to you at the scheduled time. Reservations take precedent over casual use. Patrons using a study room without making a reservation may be asked to vacate. If the room you have reserved is occupied, go to the circulation desk and report the problem.

Reserve a Study Room Online


Choose your Space •
Need a place to take an online test?  Does your study group need a quiet place to work? Archer Library's online study room reservation system provides opportunity for you to book a study room on the 2nd (201), 4th (401), or 5th (501 & 502) floor.

Select a room & time •

Why make a reservation? A reservation guarantees the study room is available to you at the scheduled time. Patrons using the room without making a reservation may be asked to vacate.

Check in to your reserved space •
Reservations are cancelled after fifteen minutes to open the room for use. Be sure to check in when you arrive, claiming your space.

Banned Books Week: Library Guide

Explore our Banned Books Week library guide for resources and information about banned and challenged books. It includes library resources such as Books Under Fire (2015) and Robert Cormier: Banned, Challenged, and Censored; infographics, coloring pages, and word searches from ALA; and details about the top ten challenged and banned books of 2020. Banned Books Week ends on Saturday, but the library guide is always available.

We are excited to announce a preview event for our active learning lab. Faculty and staff are invited to drop by our open house and explore! We will have interactive challenges, displays, and a few light refreshments.

EDEC 262: Databasing Around

Library Session: Active Learning Lab

Professor McDaniel's EDEC 262 Foundations in Literacy K-9 class is meeting in the Active Learning Lab, Archer Library main floor, Tuesday, 9/21 at 1:30 p.m. 

We will be exploring library databases for a research project focused on the following topics: word work strategy, writing workshop strategy, comprehension strategies in an interactive read aloud, CLOSE reading strategy, and anticipation guide / book talk.

Phonics Scavenger Hunt


Welcome Scavenger Hunters
Are you working on your phonics scavenger hunt? We are here to help. Ask in the IRC if you need assistance locating resources on your activity worksheet.

Where is the IRC?
The Instructional Resource Center is located on the second floor of Archer Library. Look for the Phonics Scavenger Hunt display on the whiteboard outside our door. 
 
When does it start?
The scavenger hunt activity begins Wednesday, September 8 and concludes Wednesday, September 15. Be sure to check IRC hours prior to your visit.

Phonics Library Guide
The EDEC 140: Phonics & the English Language library guide provides information and resources about IRC and second floor equipment and collections, such as children's books and materials kits, available to AU students, faculty, and staff. You will also find a link to the scavenger hunt survey.

ALA's Top 10 Most Challenged Books 2020

It's National Library Week! 

The American Library Association's State of America's Libraries report 2021 was released yesterday. It included the Top 10 #BannedBooksList, the most frequently challenged books of 2020.
