Celebrating National Library Week

The ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom released its annual list of the Top 10 Most Challenged Books at the start of #NationalLibraryWeek. Find out more about the list and help raise awareness about the freedom to read.

About the Infographic: "The American Library Association tracked 156 challenges to library, school, and university materials and services in 2020.  A challenge is an attempt to remove or or restrict materials or services based on content. Overall, 273 books were targeted" (ALA, OIF 2021)

ALA's Top 10 Most Challenged Books 2020

It's National Library Week! 

The American Library Association's State of America's Libraries report 2021 was released yesterday. It included the Top 10 #BannedBooksList, the most frequently challenged books of 2020.


"The American Library Association tracked 156 challenges to library, school, and university materials and services in 2020. Of the 273 books that were challenged or banned, here are the “Top 10 Most Challenged Books of 2020,” along with the reasons cited for censoring the titles." - ALA YouTube Channel

There are a lot of books in the main floor library display case. Take a guess at how many books we have loaded in the display case and enter to win a #NationalLibraryWeek prize. Stop at the circulation desk, AU Library main floor, to enter the contest. We will share the answer, and the contest winner, next week.

It's National Library Week!

It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. Use your powers of observation (and maybe math) to guess how many books are located in the display case on the main floor. Submit your guess at the circulation desk and be registered to win a National Library Week surprise.

National Library Week



There's still time to participate in these great opportunities.

Food for Fines: Monday, April 11 – Saturday, April 16 
Do you have library fines? This week we are accepting Food for Fines. How will it work? Each can or box of food you bring to the library will be worth up to $5 of fines for AU Library items (not OhioLINK) forgiven. Food contributions will go to Associated Charities to assist residents of Ashland County.

Gift Card Drawings: Monday April 11 - Saturday, April 16
Register for your chance to win a $50 Ashland University Bookstore Gift card or a $10 gift card (2) from Eva’s treats. Drawing will be held Monday, April 18th. Entry forms available at the library main desk. Limit one entry per person.
